Project Amrit Dhara – Turning the Heat of Summer into a Season of Selfl ess Service
The peak of summer in India is not merely a change in weather; it is a test of endurance and a call for compassion. In the sacred lands of Kashi, Prayagraj, Vrindavan, and Tiruvannamalai, the sun blazes with an intensity that can wither even the strongest spirits. For the thousands of pilgrims, sadhus, and daily wage earners who traverse these holy paths, a single drop of water is often the difference between devotion and despair.
At Charanvandan, we believe that Seva (selfl ess service) is the highest form of worship. This summer, we are launching the “Project Amrit Dhara”—a mission to provide life-saving hydration to those facing the brutal heat in India’s most spiritual hubs.
The Scorching Reality of the Holy Cities
Imagine walking the Panchkoshi Parikrama in Varanasi, where the stone ghats radiate heat like a furnace. Picture the elderly devotees at the Sangam in Prayagraj, where the open sands offer no shade from the midday sun. In Vrindavan, the narrow lanes are packed with pilgrims whose throats are parched as they cry out “Radhe Radhe.” Meanwhile, in Tiruvannamalai, the sacred Girivalam path becomes a journey of extreme physical trials under the tropical sun.
For many, buying a bottle of water or a cooling drink is a luxury they cannot afford. Dehydration, heat exhaustion, and fainting are common sights. This is where your kindness becomes a cool breeze in a desert of heat.
Our Mission: More Than Just Water
While water is essential, the body needs more to combat the draining effects of peak summer. Our campaign focuses on providing a variety of traditional, cooling refreshments:
- 1. Sheetal Jal (Chilled Water): Clean, fi ltered, and cold water distributed through mobile units and stationary Pyau stalls.
- 2. Gulab & Khus Sharbat: Traditional cooling drinks that lower body temperature and provide instant relief.
- 3. Lemon Squash & Electrolytes: Vital for replenishing salts lost through sweat, preventing heatstroke among the elderly and children.
- 4. Bel Syrup (Stone Apple): A sacred fruit in Kashi, known for its incredible digestive and cooling properties, perfect for the summer heat.
The Spiritual Signifi cance of Jal Daan
In our ancient scriptures, Jal Daan (the gift of water) is described as one of the most meritorious acts a human can perform. It is said that providing water to the thirsty is equivalent to performing a thousand sacrifi ces.
By serving the pilgrims in Varanasi, Prayagraj, Vrindavan, and Tiruvannamalai, you are not just helping people; you are serving the Divine that resides within them. Every traveler is a form of Atithi Devo Bhava (The Guest is God). When you quench their thirst, you earn Akshay Punya—virtue that never diminishes.
Why These Four Cities?
- ● Varanasi (Kashi): The city of Lord Shiva, where the heat refl ects off the ancient stones, making the walk to Kashi Vishwanath grueling for the thousands who arrive daily.
- ● Prayagraj: The vast plains of the Sangam offer no respite from the sun. Pilgrims walking kilometers to reach the holy confl uence are at high risk of dehydration.
- ● Vrindavan: The land of Shri Krishna attracts millions. During summer, the intensity of the crowds and the temperature creates an urgent need for cooling stations.
- ● Tiruvannamalai: The 14km Girivalam around the holy Arunachala hill is a sacred walk. In the southern heat, providing water to the Sadhus and devotees is a life-saving necessity.
