Nithya Annadaan Seva – Serve Girivalam Devotees & Sadhus at Arunachala, Tiruvannamalai
Sustain the Sacred Tradition of Feeding at the Feet of Lord Shiva
Offer Food at the Holy Foot of Arunachala – The Fire Form of Shiva
At the sacred foothills of Tiruvannamalai, rises the majestic Arunachala Hill, revered as the living manifestation of Lord Shiva in the form of divine fire. According to the Skanda Purana, Arunachala is not merely a hill but the Tejo Linga — the embodiment of Shiva’s infinite light.
Every month on Pournami and Ekadashi, and especially during holy occasions, thousands of devotees gather here to perform the sacred Girivalam, the 14-kilometre circumambulation around Arunachala. Walking barefoot, chanting the Lord’s name, surrendering ego with every step, pilgrims seek peace, clarity, and self-realization.
Along this sacred path live countless Sadhus who have renounced worldly life and made these hills their permanent abode. For them, Arunachala is not a pilgrimage destination — it is home.
In this spiritually charged atmosphere, Annadaan becomes more than charity. It becomes worship.
Why Annadaan at Arunachala Is Spiritually Powerful
The Arunachala Mahatmyam declares that even a single step taken around the hill removes accumulated karmas. Feeding a devotee or Sadhu in this sacred kshetra multiplies spiritual merit many times over.
It is believed that when food is offered at Arunachala:
- It is received as service to Lord Shiva Himself
- Negative karmas are reduced
- The heart becomes lighter and ego softens
- Inner stability replaces restlessness
This is why Annadaan in Tiruvannamalai has continued for centuries as a living spiritual tradition.
Our Ongoing Seva at Tiruvannamalai
Charanvandan Foundation has been actively serving food to Girivalam devotees and Sadhus during Pournami, Ekadashi, and other sacred occasions. Each distribution is done with devotion, ensuring that pilgrims who walk long distances receive nourishment and care.
However, over the years, the number of visitors has increased significantly. Crowds have grown, and the need has expanded beyond occasional seva days. Many Sadhus and pilgrims struggle for daily meals, especially during non-festival periods when charitable activities decrease.
To respond to this growing need, Charanvandan Foundation is now planning to expand this initiative into weekly and eventually daily Nithya Annadaan Seva, so that no Sadhu or devotee at the foothills of Arunachala remains hungry.
The Deeper Meaning of Feeding at the Feet of Shiva
Arunachala represents the fire that burns ego and ignorance. When devotees walk Girivalam, they symbolically surrender pride and attachment. When you offer food here, you participate in that same surrender.
Annadaan at Tiruvannamalai is not about giving leftovers. It is about sharing sacred nourishment in a place where spiritual seekers dedicate their lives to meditation and renunciation.
For Sadhus who have left family, wealth, and comfort behind, a simple meal becomes divine support. For pilgrims exhausted from their 14-kilometre walk, Prasadam becomes strength and blessing.
Your participation becomes part of this invisible spiritual ecosystem.
Spiritual Benefits of Participating in Nithya Annadaan
Scriptures consistently describe food donation as the highest form of giving. But when done in a powerful kshetra like Arunachala, the spiritual impact deepens.
It is believed that such seva brings:
- Peace in the household and harmony in relationships.
- Protection from unseen obstacles.
- Reduction of karmic burdens.
- Clarity in decision-making and emotional stability.
- Blessings of Lord Shiva for inner growth.
Above all, it cultivates humility. And humility is the true gateway to liberation.
