Rising Beyond The Floods: Assam Emergency Relief & Rehabilitation Campaign 2026
“Our entire home was swallowed by the Brahmaputra in minutes. Now we sit under a tarpaulin sheet on an embankment, unsure if we will have food for our children tonight.”
— A mother from Sivasagar District, Assam
The Charanvandan Foundation has launched an urgent, high-priority emergency response and long-term rehabilitation mission in Assam. Over 7 lakh (700,000) people across 12 districts are battling catastrophic flooding as the Brahmaputra and its tributaries rage past danger levels.
Entire villages are completely submerged, crops are destroyed, and thousands of families have been displaced to makeshift relief camps along embankments and highways.

This is not just a natural disaster—it is a humanitarian crisis. Your support provides immediate survival kits (dry rations, safe drinking water, medical aid, and blankets) and powers long-term rehabilitation so farmers, children, and families can rebuild their lives with dignity.
How Floods Have Impacted Communities in Assam
The aftermath of this flood season has severely damaged Upper and Central Assam’s rural backbone:
-
Submerged Croplands: Over 56,000 hectares of paddy fields are completely under water, destroying seasons of hard work and leaving farm families with zero income.
-
Loss of Shelter & Belongings: Homes made of mud and bamboo have collapsed, washing away utensils, clothes, and precious livestock—the primary financial asset for rural families.
-
Health & Sanitation Risks: Stagnant floodwaters bring severe threats of cholera, dysentery, skin infections, and snakebites, compounded by a lack of clean drinking water.
-
Disrupted Education: Hundreds of rural schools are either submerged or serving as temporary relief shelters, leaving children unable to continue their studies.
“The water receded from our village, but it left behind two feet of sludge and broken walls. My cows are gone, and my field is covered in sand. I look at my family, but I have nothing to give them.”
— Bhaben Gogoi, Farmer from Charaideo

Why Rehabilitation Matters More Than Just Relief
Relief is the immediate first step—it keeps people alive with food and water for a few weeks. But without long-term rehabilitation, families remain trapped in poverty and dependency.
Rehabilitation ensures that:
-
Farmers can sow again: Providing climate-resilient paddy seeds restores financial independence.
-
Children stay in school: Replacing lost books and uniforms prevents long-term dropouts.
-
Families live safely: Helping repair mud homes prevents prolonged displacement in temporary camps.
