Wrap a Life in Warmth: Blanket Seva for Sadhus & Needy Families Across Varanasi’s.

When the night becomes colder than the stone they sleep on, your blanket becomes their only shelter.

As winter descends upon Varanasi, the holy ghats transform into a place of quiet struggle. Under the open sky, where countless sadhus meditate and where the poorest families live with nothing but their faith to protect them, the cold becomes unforgiving — sometimes even life-threatening.

For many, a single blanket is not comfort. It is survival.

This winter, Charanvandan Foundation has taken a heartfelt pledge:
No sadhu, no elderly soul, no roadside dweller, no helpless family on the ghats of Kashi should shiver through the cruelty of winter.

The Winter Nights of Varanasi Are Beautiful — but Brutal

The Aarti lights, the sacred chants, and the glowing ghats hide a reality that surfaces only when the temperature falls:

Sadhus who sleep by the riverbank with bare shoulders, Elderly poor couples curled up near tea stalls for warmth, Children living on the roadside with only thin sheets over them, Women who sit with their little ones wrapped in torn saris and Aged pilgrims who stay overnight with no money for shelter

When the cold winds blow across the Ganga, these people have no refuge. They endure the night, hoping the morning sun will arrive quickly. A sadhu at Manikarnika Ghat shared softly: “Hum toh Shiv ke bhakt hain… par yeh thandi sharir ko tod deti hai. Ek kambal kisi ke liye chota cheez hai, par hamare liye poori raat ki raksha.”

Your one blanket can carry someone through an entire season.

Why This Seva Matters in Kashi — The City of Compassion

Varanasi has always been a place where humanity blends with spirituality. Offering warmth to someone in winter is considered one of the highest forms of seva.

Scriptures say:

  • Narada Purana:  “He who offers warmth to those suffering in cold protects life itself.”
  • Skanda Purana (Kashi Khanda): In Kashi, helping a saint or a poor soul is equal to serving Mahadev.”

When you offer a blanket along the ghats of Kashi, you are not just giving fabric — you are offering dignity, protection, and life.

We Are Covering All 84 Ghats — Because Everyone Deserves Warmth

This year, Charanvandan Foundation is executing one of its most extensive winter missions:

Reaching 84 ghats from Assi to Rajghat, Identifying sadhus, elderly, abandoned women, roadside dwellers, rickshaw pullers, and poor families , Distributing high-quality winter blankets, Providing additional shawls and woollens where needed and Conducting late-night rounds when the cold is harshest Our volunteers walk from ghat to ghat, carrying warmth on their shoulders. This is not charity. This is humanity.

“A Blanket Is Not a Gift — It Is a Lifeline.”

A mother living near Godowlia Road whispered:

“Raat ko jab thand tez hoti hai toh bachche ro padte hain. Agar ek garam kambal mil jaaye toh raat beet jaati hai.”

A blanket might cost little for us, but for someone battling the cold at 2 AM, it becomes the difference between suffering and safety.
